Ferrari’s History
Scuderia Ferrari is an Italian constructor that competes in Formula One under an Italian license and is, hands down, the most successful team in the sport at the moment, in spite of the results of the last few years not being so great. The team was formed way back in 1929 and has experience of taking part in various racing championships including the likes of sports car racing but at the moment, the team only concentrates on Formula One. The team was founded by Enzo Ferrari, the original idea for which was to make the cars race with the likes of Alfa Romeo and Lamborghini and the others but by 1947, the company had moved into full time manufacturing and having been competing in the Grand Prix races since the 1932 season, is the oldest surviving team still left in Formula One. The team is easily the best team in so far as it has won 15 constructors’ championships over the years, the next highest being that of the Williams Formula 1 team that has won 9 titles and apart from that, the drivers of the Scuderia Ferrari have also won 15 world championships, 5 of which were won consecutively by the legendary Michael Schumacher.
The other drivers to have won a drivers’ championship while racing for the Scarlet Prancing Horse include Kimi Raikkonen, Alberto Ascari, Mike Hawthorn, Juan Manuel Fangio, John Surtees, Phil Hill, Niki Lauda, and Jody Scheckter. Scuderia Ferrari is the only team that has survived from the first ever Formula One season and was among the teams that lined up at the starting grid in the first ever Formula One race that was held in Monaco in 1950. The first race car that was built by the company was designed and built by Enzo Ferrari in order to show his bosses who kicked him out from Alfa Romeo that he knew how to build fast cars and the eight cylinders Tipo 815 was one of the fastest cars around at that time. The team has gone through various changes in designs in both the engines as well as the chassis and is currently running on six cylinders. The Scuderia Ferrari also supplies its engines to other constructors such as the Sauber Formula One Team as well as the Toro Rosso team. Currently, former double world champion Fernando Alonso and Brazilian Felipe Massa race for the Italian outfit.
