Technical Structure Change By Ferrari

Ferrari is all set to take Formula One to the next level through its introduction of new tyres.

The compounds of the tyres are wider by 25 percent when compared to the existing ones. It would be introduced in the next season and hence it is now in a testing phase. The testing schedule took place this week at Fiorano with Esteban Gutierrez and Sebastian Vettel as the duties were shared with them on Monday and Tuesday.

The SF15-T that was used in 2015 by the Italian outfit has been modified for simulating the rule of 2017. The rear wing and front wing are wider than before. There were about 285 laps that were finished within the first 2 days of testing. For sessions in the morning, slicks were being used and intermediates were used on the water track. The front tyres were increased to 305 mm from 245 mm and the rears to 405 mm. Also, the aim was to cut up to 4 seconds of every lap.

Ferrari F1 no closer to Mercedes, says Marko

Helmut Marko, the advisor for Red Bull Racing believes that the chasing pack has almost no chance of catching up to the pace setting Mercedes F1 team. He added that despite finishing on the podium with Sebastian Vettel in third place, Ferrari F1 has not really made much headway into catching up with the German team.

The performance of the Silver Arrows at the season opening Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne saw Red Bull Racing urge the FIA to come up with some sort of equalising measure to reduce the huge gulf in class between them and the chasing pack while F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone wants things between the cars to be levelled out a bit more.

Mercedes claimed another one-two finish at Melbourne last weekend with Formula One Drivers’ world champion Lewis Hamilton taking the win followed by teammate Nico Rosberg and with new Ferrari F1 driver Vettel finishing in third place, although almost 30 seconds behind Hamilton in first.

Marko added that despite its third placed finish, the Italian outfit hasn’t really closed the gap on Mercedes and added that the chasing will not be catching up to the Silver Arrows soon. He said that the performance of the Scuderia team must be seen relatively, adding that they are not any closer to Mercedes, they have just improved upon last year.

He went on to add that no one at Red Bull Racing believes that with the restrictions in its current form, no other team can manage to catch up with Mercedes. He said that if one doesn’t have that engine, they don’t have the chance.
